What a paid plan mainly adds is models and quota. Besides Argon, AI Pro unlocks Lyria, Nano Banana and Gemini Pro. Quota works on a daily clock: it goes back to zero at a set time, with no rolling window, and Pro gets more per day in the Playground and Build than free users do. The subscription also covers Code Assistant, the Build-mode tool people use for vibe coding (Google AI plans page).
Once you want a finished prototype to run inside your own code, you've gone past what the subscription pays for, and that API usage costs extra. The same goes for agents in AI Studio such as Deep Research: you'll need to bring a paid key of your own to use them (Google AI plans page).
