SPACE was already running tasks behind Perplexity Computer and is now public under Apache 2.0 (@perplexity_ai, GitHub). Perplexity explains that credentials and outbound connections are handled from outside the VM, while inside, each agent task gets a Firecracker microVM to itself (@perplexity_ai). Sandboxes can be forked, paused, or saved as memory and disk snapshots to resume later from the same point, and they keep going even after the request that created them is gone (@perplexity_ai). The host was never reached in internal escape testing: nine model setups, each given root inside the VM, made 108 tries between them (@perplexity_ai).
For integration, apps talk to SPACE purely over HTTP, so no Rust library has to be embedded; teams already on the E2B Python SDK can also connect through a compatible wrapper (GitHub).
